“BIRDS BIRDS BIRDS” (2020). Cristina Guerrero explores femininity and the role of women in society. Birds, as universal symbols of life, strength, and optimism, are paired with shoes—objects that anchor us to the ground yet also represent action and movement. This relationship creates a tension: while the shoes can oppress, they also mirror the birds’ fragility, as all the painted birds are porcelain or plastic figures that cannot fly. The series celebrates freedom, turning this contrast into a poetic reflection on resilience, constraint, and the enduring spirit of womanhood.
