Sanding and Mattifying: Caring for Every Detail of the Work

I’m currently in the sanding stage of this piece, Helium: Betty, and I wanted to share why this step is so important to me. After looking closely at the work, I decided to mattify it: the shine, while attractive, would interfere with how I want the details and textures to be perceived.
Each pass with the sandpaper is done carefully, aiming to respect the form and essence of the piece. For me, it’s not just about smoothing the surface—it’s about preparing the work so it can “speak for itself,” without any reflection distracting the viewer.
This is one of those moments in the process that shows how small decisions can completely change the final experience. And I love being able to share it and explain why I do things this way.
